Earth Day is Every Day at Goodwill

Goodwill Industries of Hawaii encourages consumers to donate

Honolulu, HI (April 22, 2013) — April 22nd marks the celebration of the 43rd annual Earth Day. While big-picture issues can often seem far removed from everyday life, Goodwill Industries of Hawaii encourages consumers to remember the widespread impact from the simple act of donating goods.

For over 50 years, Goodwill Industries of Hawaii has been an entrepreneurial leader, environmental pioneer and social innovator of the “reduce, reuse, repurpose” practice.

There are several ways Goodwill Industries of Hawaii continues to contribute to the annual efforts of Earth Day statewide in Hawaii.

For instance, Goodwill Industries of Hawaii manages the Donate Movement, a corporate social responsibility platform and public awareness movement that encourages consumers to think of donating used goods as just as essential to environmental responsibility.

In 2012, Goodwill diverted more than 12.5 million pounds of clothing and household goods from Hawaii’s landfills to support job-training opportunities for people in need of work.

Goodwill and Dell’s free computer recycling partnership, called Dell Reconnect, allows people in Hawaii to make a computer donation knowing it’s good for people and the planet. The Dell Reconnect program allows people to simply drop off used computers and peripherals (any brand, and in any condition) at their local Goodwill.
