The theme of the 2019 GLAM! Fashion Show — Legacy — celebrates the lasting impact that Goodwill Hawaii and Anne Namba Designs have imparted on the people of Hawaii.
Anne Namba will combine Goodwill’s appeal of fashion for all decades with her own donated, signature Kimono Couture pieces for a retrospective look back at their contributions in fashion and beyond.
Meet The Producer
Anne Yuri Namba was born in Hawaii but spent much of her youth in Bangkok, Thailand and Tehran, Iran. Afterreceiving a degree from the University of Hawaii, Anne went on to graduate Cum Laude from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and gained experience working in the costume department at Radio City Music Hall in New York and at Malahini Hawaii, one of the state’s largest garment manufacturer.
In 1989, Anne opened her Honolulu boutique Anne Namba Designs featuring her own line of one-of-a-kind garments made from vintage Japanese kimonos and obis. In the years since, Anne has taken her “Kimono Couture” to new heights, including creating her own exclusive silk print collections using Asian themes. Her collections have appeared in Bergdorf-Goodman in New York, Neiman Marcus, Macy’s West, the Saks Fifth Avenue, Folio Catalog, Nordstrom, Liberty House and I. Magnin stores. She has shown her designs in Beijing, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore and many mainland U. S. cities.
Anne’s clientele includes Elizabeth Taylor, Mariska Hargitay, Hillary Clinton, Joan Mondale, Ann Getty, Veronica Hamel, Sharon Stone, Tamlyn Tomita, Olympic Figure Skating Gold Medalist Kristi Yamaguchi, actors George Takei, Jim Nabors, Pat Morita and musician Herb Alpert.
In 2007 she was a recipient of the Roselani Medallion of Excellence from The National Society of Arts and Letters. In 2000 Anne Namba Designs was selected by Ernst & Young as Hawaii’s Retail Entrepreneur of the Year.
Meet The CHEF
Lawrence Nakamoto received his associate culinary arts degree from Kapiolani Community College in 2008 and has 13 years of experience in the restaurant industry. He started at Mariposa as a line cook five years ago before serving as the Sous Chef and now as the Executive Chef. Nakamoto has been instrumental in attracting new local clientele to Mariposa by introducing unique dishes such as the Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Bone Marrow Crust and the Sun-Dried Tomato and Goat Cheese Ravioli. Before joining Mariposa he served as the Executive Chef at Il Lupino, Sous Chef at Kahala Resorts, and also spent time at Elua, Sapori Enoteca and Padovani’s Grill under mentors Philippe Padovani and Donato Loperfido. When he’s not in the kitchen, Nakamoto enjoys cycling and exploring brunch spots around the islands.
