17th Annual Auction - January 29, 2008

Goodwill Industries of Hawaii held its 17th Annual Fundraising Auction on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Willows in Makiki. This year’s event earned more than $82,000 for the agency’s employment service programs. In the lush, tropical setting of the Willows, over 300 people including corporate sponsors, legislators and supporters, attended the annual event and enjoyed food pairings with wine and spirits. Many of the guests took the opportunity to bid on the hundreds of unique collectibles, gift baskets and auction packages donated by local businesses and community members.

The highlight of the evening was Goodwill’s signature program featuring the Signing Stars and Goodwill’s Success Story of the Year. This year’s Success story showcased Blaine, a single father of two adolescent children who shared his journey from homelessness and dependency on public assistance to employment and self-sufficiency. Through Goodwill’s job readiness program, he was able to find employment with a locally owned maintenance company and soon found an apartment for his family. Making his life better for his children, Blaine is one of the many examples of the lives that are impacted by Goodwill’s services to the community.
