Volunteers Staff Free Tax Clinic for Low-Income Families

For several years, Goodwill Industries of Hawaii (Honolulu) has run a free tax clinic three days a week and on Saturday mornings to assist a wide range of people with low incomes, including people who are elderly, people who recently immigrated, those who have not filed their taxes for multiple years, people who do not speak English, workers who are homeless, and individuals who are simply inexperienced with or uninformed about the tax process. Despite the heavy load that comes with being a director and practice leader at the law firm of Damon Key Leong Kupchak and Hastert, Douglas Smith still finds time to volunteer with Goodwill Industries of Hawaii. Since he joined the Goodwill board in 1995, Smith has been pivotal in the success of many of the organization’s undertakings. That could be why the Kailua born-and-bred Smith was recently named the 2009 Elsine Katz Volunteer Leader of the Year by Goodwill Industries International.

Goodwill partners with Family Circle Magazine for Back-to-School Drive

Goodwill to Manage, Support Single Soldier Housing in HI under New Contract

Goodwill Industries® of Hawaii (Honolulu) won a first-of-its-kind contract from the U.S. Army. As part of the First Sergeants’ Barracks Initiative (FSBI), the Goodwill® will provide housing management and support services at five military installations at the U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii. Fifty-nine full-time employees will be hired under the $4.2 million one-year, unrestricted award. During the year, the agency will work closely with NISH and the Army to have this contract set aside on the federal procurement list.
